Postdoc/PhD studentship in Rock Mechanics on Fractured Rock Mass

• نوشته شده توسط: دکتر جیریایی

A postdoctoral position (or a PhD studentship) is available immediately at the Rock Mechanics Group at Seoul National University. The postdoc position is for 1 year, with the possibility for further extension; the PhD studentship is for 4 to 5 years, including 2 years of coursework. The position is open to both international and Korean applicants.  The postdoc (or PhD student) will be expected to work closely with Dr Ki-Bok Min as well as other graduate students. The research focuses on the numerical determination of deformation and strength properties of fractured rock mass using DFN (discrete fracture network)-DEM (Discrete Element Method) approach. The obtained properties will be calibrated and refined through the comparison with field data. Investigation of anisotropic behavior of rock (mass) by both numerical and experimental techniques is also an important component of the task. The proposed work is a general rock mechanics study and the possibility also exist to work with other ongoing projects related to reservoir geomechanics for CO2 storage, Korean EGS project in Pohang and the geological repository of nuclear waste, all underway in Rock Mechanics Group in SNU.  The Rock Mechanics Group at Seoul National University (http://rockeng.snu.ac.kr) comprises 3 faculty members and more than 20 full-time graduate students. The group covers a wide variety of rock mechanics/geomechanics applications from geo-environmental, civil, petroleum and mining engineering. Seoul National University is a leading research university in Korea that hosts an increasing number of international scholars on its splendid campus at the foot of Kwanak Mountain in Seoul. Graduate courses can be given in English.   Key qualifications include:  Recent PhD (for postdoc) in rock mechanics, hydrogeology, civil engineering, petroleum engineering, or a related field;  Solid background in rock mechanics, and numerical modeling;  Ability to work independently to identify and solve problems; and   Ability to work with a team of graduate students and scientists as well as to author peer-reviewed publications.   Interested applicants should email the following to Dr Ki-Bok Min (kbmin@snu.ac.kr):   A CV that includes the names and contact information for 3 referees; and   A concise description (no more than 2 pages) outlining specific research interests.   Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. For the one who wants to apply for PhD student position, official deadline for admission in March 2012 is mid-August this year. Information can be found at http://www.useoul.edu/admission/adm0101.jsp.  Any inquiries about this position are welcome.    Ki-Bok Min Assistant Professor Rock Mechanics/Rock Hydromechanics Department of Energy Resources Engineering Seoul National University, Korea Tel: +82 2 880 9074
